Coping With Climate Change (or: The World is Ending – Now What?)
August 14 @ 11:00 pm - August 15 @ 12:30 am
We’ve very pleased to host the fifth installment of this popular monthly series at the Causerie!
This is a time of great change in the world, but the dominant dialogue is filled with despair and frustration. Things are bad, no doubt, but there is work being done to change things.
Join us for an evening of hope, where people come together and acknowledge the danger the world is in while looking forward to solutions. Think of it like a support group for people dealing with climate change, industrial pollution, and fear for the future. Everyone will have a chance to speak and be heard.
This conversational workshop will guide participants through a series of exercises designed to reconnect us with community and plan ways forward in turbulent times.
This workshop is modeled on the principles described in ‘Active Hope’ by Joanna Macy and Dr. Chris Johnstone.
The facilitator for this workshop is Tim Alamenciak. He was a journalist with TVO and the Toronto Star and left that field to study ecological restoration at the University of Waterloo and help heal the planet. Marit Collective is a social organization that encourages a culture of depth and thoughtfulness through exploring personal insight and human connection. We create space for respectful discussion and consciousness-raising within our own groups and community, working at the personal level to foster more empathy and awareness of each other. We believe that individual shifts in understanding can lead to larger societal evolution in an increasingly polarized world.
Our new home, the Causerie, is a place to listen, learn, and connect across perspectives. With this space, we are working to build a community centered around thoughtful discussion & deeper consideration of complex issues through sharing ideas and personal points-of-view. The bathrooms have no accessibility devices installed.
