WRN Teens – Salamander Monitoring Training

May 25 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Eastern Red-backed Salamander
Blue Spotted Salamander
Blue Spotted Salamander

We’re taking on a project the UW ecology students have been doing with David Gascoigne from WRN — monitoring salamanders at SpruceHaven Farm. On May 25, Jenna Quinn from rare, along with David, will teach us the scientific protocol for counting the salamanders and measuring and recording various data (soil temperature and humidity, for example). This spring, we’ll have only one other day of monitoring, on June 1. If all goes well and we get the equipment we need, starting in the fall, we’ll be responsible for weekly monitoring. Collecting the data at all the locations on the farm takes about 2 hours — but we would need only 2 Teens each time so we’ll make a rotating schedule.
